Tips: How to Rename fields in Acumatica using DACs?

The renaming functionality helps users to change display name of these elements so that they don’t have to learn standard – technical namings.

With the flexibility to customize any screen or create new screens in Acumatica, users can make modifications as per their requirements. With this flexibility, we can even modify the field names without writing any code.

Use Case: Let us assume that we want to rename the field name of Description in the Sales Orders (SO301000) screen to SO Description. 

Now to rename the field below mentioned are the steps: 

By using DACs – 

1. After logging into Acumatica, create a new customization project on Customization Projects (SM204505) form. 

2. Add the Sales Orders (SO301000) screen to customize. 

3. Open it in the Customization Project Editor.

4. Click on the screen id, this will redirect the screen to the elements being used in the Sales Orders screen. 

5. Now select the Form: Document section in the middle pane, since the Description field element has been added under this section.  

6. Upon selecting it, the related DAC will be displayed under the Attributes tab as shown below.

7. Now under More Menu (three dots) select Customize Data Access option.

8. This will redirect to the Data Access Class screen of the same. 

9. Select Change Attributes of the Base Field button.

10. And then select the field name for which the modification is to be done. And then click on the OK button.

11. Leave the value of Customize Attributes field as Append to the original. 

12. Now in the blank box type 

13. And then click on the Save button.

14. At last, publish the project. 

15. Hence, the field has been renamed.
